Botox Therapy
Botox is a trade name for diluted, purified form of the Botulism toxin, a potent muscle relaxant. Extremely small doses of Botox are injected into a specific muscle, causing the action of only that muscle to be paralyzed. Botox is very effective in improving wrinkles due to facial expression, such as worry lines of the forehead, frown lines between the eyebrows, and crow's feet around the eyes. Botox is not a treatment for aging, sagging skin.
Botox Questions
- How does Botox work?
- Botox relaxes the muscles causing the wrinkles so they do not contract. After treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while untreated facial muscles contract in a normal facial expression.

Botox Treatment: Before and After
- Is Botox treatment safe?
- Botox injections have been used by thousands of patients over the last 10 years. Botox is produced in a controlled laboratory, and given in extremely small doses. Although it is a toxin, it is safe and there have been no serious side effects reported. The most common minor complication is a slight and very temporary drooping of the eyelid. Following treatment you can immediately resume full activity.
- Is the procedure painful?
- A very tiny micro-needle is used to inject the Botox, with a small amount injected at various sites on the face. A topical anesthetic is applied to the treated area prior to your injections to minimalize any discomfort.
- When will I see results following my Botox treatment?
- Results are usually seen within 4-7 days.
- How long does Botox last?
- Botox injections typically last 3-4 months depending on the number of previous treatments. A memory response may develop with repeated Botox injections if they are done every 3 months for approximately one year. So although the effects are not permanent, there may be a gradual lengthening of the time interval between treatments.
